Specialty and Customized Contact Lenses

Scleral Contact Lenses: Advanced Comfort and Clarity

Scleral lenses may be used to improve vision and reduce pain and light sensitivity for people suffering from a number of disorders or injuries to the eye, such as patients which Dry Eye Syndrome, Graft vs. Host disease, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Microphthalmia, Keratoconus, Corneal Ectasia, Aniridia, Neurotrophic Keratopathy / Keratitis (anesthetic corneas). Patients who cannot close their eyes completely can experience improved comfort with the use of Scleral lenses.

Scleral lenses have been highly successful for patients with post-LASIK / RK / PRK, corneal transplant and pellucid degeneration complications. Injuries to the eye such as surgical complications, chemical and burn injuries also may be corrected with the use of scleral lenses.

Scleral lenses are custom fit to address the patient’s individual needs. Alvernon Optical provides established expertise and innovative technology to fit this highly precise lens. Scleral lenses offer clarity and comfort for patients who have been previously told they were not good candidates for contacts or who have been unsuccessful with other types of contact lenses.

If you suffer from dry eye, sensitive eyes, a medical condition or injury ask Dr. Baim if the large diameter scleral lenses are right for you.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) / Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT)

Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) also known as Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) is the number one choice for myopia control in children and adults. Ortho-k/CRT is a process of fitting specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that the patient wears overnight. While the patient sleeps the lenses gently reshape the front surface of the eye (cornea) so the patient can see clearly without lenses during the day.

Several studies have shown that Ortho-k/CRT lenses can slow the rate of progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Many parents are choosing an Ortho-k/CRT treatment regime to decrease the rate of progression of childhood myopia, eliminating for glasses or contact lenses.

Ortho-k is also a great benefit for swimmers, athletes and patients who are around dust, pollen or other eye irritants. We invite you to schedule an appointment with Silverbell Eyecare Center to see if Ortho-k/CRT is the right choice for you or your child. Ortho-k/CRT is a great alternative for patients who want clear vision without surgery.
